"Ah, ces moments passés à écouter, chiner, s'arrêter et découvrir de nouveaux territoires musicaux dans la quiétude bienheureuse d'un dimanche après-midi qui s'étire doucement... surtout pour s'extirper d'une somnolence postprandiale balbutiante quand l'oreille accroche peu à peu sur un dialogue entre clarinette, trompette et clavier. On ouvre un oeil, juste le temps de s'imprégner d'un nom, Saï Dew, d'un titre d'album, Polar Exodus, avant de s'évader tranquillement sans quitter son home sweet home. Car les sept tracks (...) s'affranchissent de tout formatage : ils nous enveloppent progressivement, presque tendrement, entre un début marqué par une atmosphère club de jazz assez enlevée, pour évoluer (notamment à partir du très aérien Deaf by Silence, tournant de l'album) vers une rêverie plus contemplative, tout en nous gratifiant tout du long de superbes envolées instrumentales sur fond d'electro délicate, lumineuse et éthérée. Car les gars de Saï Dew, excellents musiciens, savent sans aucun doute restituer un style, une ambiance empreinte de références au premier rang desquelles Erik Truffaz ou Bonobo, une sorte de mélange audacieux nu-jazz, auquel les nappes trip-hop ou les discrètes incursions drum'n bass apportent légèreté et caractère. Polar Exodus, au premier abord exigeant, puis séduisant, possède ce petit supplément d'âme, cette fraîcheur qui en font un voyage à savourer, le sourire aux lèvres, l'esprit vagabond et le corps blotti bien au chaud..."

"In all honesty, this is the first Nu Jazz post ever to appear here on The Music Ninja. In fact, we don’t even have a Jazz category built into the site! Don’t get us wrong, it’s not that we wouldn’t post any, it’s just that it doesn’t really ever come up. Until today, that is.
Coming to us via one of our most favorite forms of musical discovery (a friendly IM from a fellow music nerd), we were instantly transported to a dark, smokey jazz club within seconds of pressing play. Aside from the lack of lush, red velvet curtains and classic cocktails, we had everything else we needed to help set up that imaginary atmosphere. “Orages Ordinaires” is the song that provided this lovely day dream, and it’s crafted by french electronic jazz outfit Sai Dew.
Using classical jazz instruments and stylings layered over buzzing electronic basslines and synths, this foursome has crafted something that transcends time and generations, seamlessly fusing together past and present. They escape the boundaries of both genre’s norms, creating something that flirts with associations of Pretty Lights, and something you’d hear at your favorite local jazz club.

We love this new wave of jazz, perfect mix of acoustic and electronic instruments. Their first album, Polar Exodus, left me speechless. Here, the electronic part is not used as a selling point, but as a separate instrument and the symbioses created between these two worlds is very well done ! Very good musicians, captivating groove, perfect sound design brief a must listen !
Therefore:
1. Take an hour in the day.
2. Settle comfortably on your couch with your best audio equipment.
3. Let you go through this colorful depths offered by this album.

On aime beaucoup cette nouvelle vague de nu-jazz, mélange parfait entre instrument accoustique et plaisir électronique. Et laissez-nous vous dire que leur premier album, Polar Exodus, nous a laissé coi. Ici, la partie électronique n’est pas utilisé comme argument de vente mais bien comme instrument à part entière et la symbiose crée entre ces deux mondes est très bien réalisée! Très bon musiciens, groove envoutant, sound design soigné bref une belle perle!
Donc :
1. Prendre une heure dans sa journée.
2. S’installer confortablement sur son canapé avec son meilleur matériel audio.
3. Se laisser partir dans les abysses colorées qu’offrent cet album."

"(...) YES! This is right up my alley! It’s like a more trippy electronic version of Mammal Hands or GoGo Penguin. Maybe a more French/Belgian version? I can’t put my finger on it, but you can just kind of tell that they’re from mainland Europe (...) Glossy sine-wavey bass and synth sounds with wind instruments and jazz rhythms? It’s a sure fire way to get this girl going. If this ticks your boxes, you should also have a listen to ‘Orages Ordinaires’, along with a few others on the ‘Polar Exodus’ LP. I can’t figure out if they’re signed to any label, or if they’re an independent band. Either way, I really hope they come and play in the UK."
